Mauna Loa Volcano Eruption: Explosion in the world's largest volcano

Mauna Loa, a volcano in the Hawaiian Islands of America, has started erupting.

According to the news agency, officials said on Monday that the eruption of the volcano filled the sky with ash and smoke for several kilometers.

The US Geological Survey said the caldera, the top of a volcano on the Big Island, began erupting late Sunday night.

Officials warned residents living near the Mauna Loa lava to remain alert.

Scientists were on alert because of recent earthquakes at the top of the volcano.

The last time this volcano erupted was in the year 1984.

Mauna Loa is 13,679 feet (4,169 m) above sea level.

Kilauea volcano is located near Mauna Loa.

In the year 2018, the Kilauea volcano erupted, which destroyed 700 houses.

About 200,000 people live on the Big Island, including celebrities like Roseanne Barr and Matthew McConaughey.

The vastness of the Mauna Loa volcano can be gauged from the fact that it occupies more than half of Hawaii.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Mauna Loa on October 14 as well.
