Barcelona: No €60m midfielder; World Cup SF preferred

Barcelona have ruled out signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer.

Sofyan Amrabat is now the preferred option for the defensive midfield position.

Barcelona wants to sign a new pivot midfielder regardless of Sergio Busquets' contract extension.

Zubimendi was at the top of the wishlist for manager Xavi Hernandez, but his €60 million release clause makes the signing unviable.

Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat is now seen as the most preferred option.

Barcelona had previously tried to sign Amrabat in January, but the deal did not materialize.

Amrabat's agent confirmed that Fiorentina would listen to offers for him this summer.

Amrabat is keen on joining Barcelona and his contract expires in 2024, potentially making him available for a lower price than Zubimendi.

Amrabat rose to stardom after helping Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Barcelona is among the clubs interested in signing Amrabat.
